I’ve never wanted to be the person that blamed my childhood for what I chose or didn’t choose to do with my life. It’s inescapable that we’re going to have good, and bad experiences as kids, and they both play parts in shaping us. It’s easy to focus on what wasn’t right and use it as an excuse to keep from pursuing what you want in life, right? Oh no, I didn’t want that to be me. But a funny thing happened on the way to finding my purpose. Insecurities routed in those pubescent experiences reared their ugly heads. My brain was saying one thing, while my emotions were playing Wack-A-Mo. I’m swinging the mallet smacking down the doubts and negative messages but they keep popping up. It’s flippin’ exhausting. So here’s the choice, stay where you are and live unfulfilled wondering “what if…” letting those insecurities and negative messages hold you back from experiencing what you want. Or listen to your heart and start creating the life you deserve, say screw it, and go for it.
There’s no BS here, it’s work. You will be fighting years of negative self-talk, challenging long-held beliefs that don’t serve you. During the journey, you’ll need to reject the doubters who don’t support you and stay the heck away from toxic people who suck the positivity out of you. Put in place a strategy that you can use when you feel doubtful (meditate, go for a walk, do something that brings you joy). You’re going to have those moments of “WTF am I doing?” (there will be plenty of them) and yes you’ll want to give up, again and again. DON’T! If this was easy everyone would be happy, nice, and well-adjusted.
The rewards for your efforts are priceless. Embrace the possibilities you’re worthy of living a purposeful life, an amazing life, and remember to be kind to yourself during your journey.
